Biography
Edward J. Maher, 84, of West Long Branch, Passed away Saturday February 4th at the Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.
Mr. Maher was born in Colts Neck and had lived most of his life in West Long Branch. He was a parishioner of St. Jerome's RC Church, West Long Branch.
Ed was a proud World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was so proud of his service to his country that when asked what his favorite color was, he would respond Red, White and Blue.
He was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Long Branch Elks, B.P.O.E., #742, Long Branch, and a member of the V.F.W., Long Branch. Ed was an avid baseball fan.
Ed was pre-deceased by his wife Josephine "Jo" Maher in 2007, and his step-sons, Nicholas and Felix Cittadino.
Surviving are his grandchildren, Phillip Cittadino, Carol Mincelli, Nicholas Cittadino, Michelle Spencer, Michael Cittadino, Mary Jo Cittadino, Katherine Campbell, Joy Ludwig and Edward Cittadino; his great-grandson, John Estelle, and many other great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday Feb. 9th, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, with an Elk's service at 7:15 PM at the Woolley Funeral Home, 10 Morrell St., Long Branch. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday Feb. 10th, 9:30 AM, St. Jerome's RC Church, West Long Branch. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
